Why is software architecture important to a car wash owner or manager?
For the most part, people are only really concerned about software function, but the foundation / underlying design also matters. Most carwashes don’t have the time or IT resources available to install and manage a computer software solution, and this is where Software as a Service (SaaS) comes in.
SaaS is a model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis, and it is hosted off-site by the provider. Sometimes SaaS is referred to as “on-demand software”. In the case of Wash.Systems, our software solutions are accessed by a web browser. Many business applications are great candidates for this software model: including customer relationship management (CRM), preventative maintenance (PM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), human resource management (HRM), content management (CM) and service request management. Two of the biggest selling points of SaaS for a carwash owner are that the software maintenance is included in the monthly fee, and that there are no up front costs when looking at solutions like those offered by Wash.Systems.
Another critical factor of our design is simplicity. A well-thought-out yet simple design can virtually eliminate the need for training. Many web solutions (think Facebook or Twitter) are intuitive enough that there is little, if any, training needed. This can be another subtle advantage of SaaS.
The Operations Process Engine (OPEn) offered by Wash.Systems is a SaaS solution that your team can access via any Internet-connected device (ex: desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone). As a manager or owner, you can access the PM / operational checklist information from any of your other car wash locations, from home, or while traveling (essentially anywhere you have access to the Internet). This flexibility is a function of the software architecture.
